Covenant - Means : Aggreement/Contract/Promise
In the Bible,
Its a binding agreement defines the relationship between God and His people.
God always initiates the Covenant.
God's covenant are unilateral, meaning they are are driven by His divine initiative, solely on His faithfulness to fulfill them ( not by any of our works )
It's unilateral. (Normally any agreement/contract, both parties to act.)
Covenant is relational, personal lifelong promises.
Covenant are sealed with symbolic sign.
Noahic Covenant (Genesis 8-9): An unconditional promise from God to Noah and all living creatures to never again destroy the earth by a flood.
Sign: The Rainbow
Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 15): God promises Abraham a great nation, a specific land (Canaan), and that through him, all nations of the earth will be blessed
Sign: Circumcision
Mosaic (Sinaitic) Covenant (Exodus 19-24): A conditional covenant established with the nation of Israel at Mount Sinai. It contains the Law (including the Ten Commandments) and outlines blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience.
Sign: The Sabbath
Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7): God promises King David that his lineage will rule forever and that one of his descendants will build a "house" for God's name.
Sign: Throne / ( Holy Spirit as Seal ) ??
New Covenant (Jeremiah 31, Luke 22): God promised a New Covenant with Israel. Israel repeatedly violated the terms of all the previous covenants, but God promised this would be different because the hearts of the people would be changed so they would want to be faithful.
Sign: Lord's Supper ( communion)
